Why aren't there any Americans in Service Jobs?
Ok, this is my first rant, so here goes:
A disturbing trend here in NY- almost every gas station, Dunkin Donuts, Landscaping Truck, Mason and the list goes on.. is manned by foreign help. Why the hell is it that no Americans can work in a Mc Donalds and people from a foreign country can get on a plane, move to an area they do not know, find a job and work 12 hour days?
What happened to the "do whatever it takes to survive" attitude that made this country great? I'll tell you. It's corruption that made the system so easily workable that an American now has the God Given right to welfare, medical care and food stamps while they work off the books for cash or worse yet, sell drugs. Corruption is everywhere- from as low a level as the guy at McDonalds who fills a bag for $5 for his buddies all the way up to goverment no-show jobs. Everybody knows somebody that can "hook them up" with some sort of special treatment and who is paying for it? YOU AND I. The hard working freakin idiots that pay more in taxes than people pay in mortgage payments every year. And for What? To have Bush send our dear soldiers to fight a war that his father lost the first time and we are losing despite having blown the fucking place up! It only costs a BILLION a DAY to have our guys over there. We could build hospitals every day with this money to take care of our own people. Doesn't anybody see this???
Back to the matter at hand: where are the workers? I see kids driving around in BMW's with $200 jeans on but they don't have a freakin job! Somehow, their parents feel that they should have everything they missed as a kid when their hard working parents couldn't afford such luxuries WENT WITHOUT.
IF we instilled values into our children, they would take pride in any job they performed rather than looking down on the Indian guy in the dunkin donuts drive through. Guess what? He is stinkin rich! How? He works 85 hour weeks and doesn't have $200 jeans or a BMW. He has a bank account full of cash just like your parents did when they went without.
When Rap stars who used to be drug dealing thugs make 30 million selling records about slinging kane, there is something wrong with this society. Damn right I'm angry. How about paying the researcher who cannot sleep because he is this close to curing cancer 30 million for his or her undying loyalty to the human race... a race that probably chewed him up in high school for being a nerd. Thank God he can forgive and forget.
